SPAM Katsu

Recipe by Uwajimaya

Spam Katsu
Spam Katsu
Tonkatsu, deep fried breaded pork cutlet, is one of the most popular dishes in Japan, and an early example of yoshoku, a fusion of Japanese and Western cuisine. Instead of a pork cutlet, we’re taking it a step further by using a more recent American creation, SPAM!

Ingredients

1 can SPAM

1 cup Flour

1 cup Panko Bread Crumbs

2 eggs, beaten

2 cup Frying Oil

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

Preparation

Heat ½ inch of oil in pan. Bring the oil to frying temperature (about 375F).

Cut SPAM into thin slices. One can should make around 8 slices.

Place flour, eggs and panko in three separate shallow dishes.

Dredge a slice of SPAM in flour and shake off excess. Dip SPAM in eggs and then press into panko until well coated.

Fry SPAM on each side until golden brown and place onto a paper towel covered cooling rack. Let cool for 2 minutes before eating.
