Thai tea
Served hot or cold, it starts with a strong black tea — either Ceylon or a Thai-specific Assam — that delivers a bold and slightly bitter foundation. Then, some combination of condensed milk, whole milk, and sugar are added, often floated over the tea and served over ice. The result is a refreshing drink with a balance of rich creaminess and brisk tea flavor, depending on how much it’s stirred.
Popular throughout Thailand and much of Southeast Asia, Thai tea has also grown in popularity across North America in recent decades.
Beyond pure Thai tea, many boba shops will offer a Thai milk tea variety that takes a version of Thai tea with chew tapioca pearls added for that satisfying, chewy texture.
With only a few ingredients, you’ll find the ingredients to make your own Thai tea at all Uwajimaya stores.
