Soba Cha

A tea made from roasted buckwheat

Soba cha or buckwheat tea is made from roasted buckwheat and has a yellow to light brown color when brewed. The buckwheat itself contains no caffeine, although some brands may be sold mixed with green tea. Buckwheat tea is sold loose or in tea bags.

Scientist have long known buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) to be a good source of vitamins C and E and the flavonoid rutin. Recent research, however, has brought to light the potentially beneficial effects of rutin in reducing high blood pressure and fighting other circulatory ailments. Rutin is also believed to be a powerful antioxidizing compound that can help fight free radicals in the body.
