A simple Japanese dish where hot green tea is poured over rice

Chazuke, or ochazuke, is at its simplest, green tea (ocha) poured over a bowl of rice.  What makes it so popular is the numerous rice toppings that often accompany the dish; most common being seaweed (nori), pickled vegetables (tsukemono), broiled fish, salted salmon or cod roe or pickled plums (umeboshi).

Chazuke is also available in ready-to-eat , single serve packs containing dried toppings and seasonings.
