Banana Flowers

Common to Southeast Asian cuisine, banana flowers are used in salads and soups

Banana flowers are deep red to purple in color and resemble a pointed mango in shape. The unopened flowers are sold whole and used like a vegetable in southeast Asian cooking. Finely sliced banana flower can be eaten raw or cooked in soups. It is a popular topping for the Vietnamese noodle soup bun bo hue.
